Influenced by Greece myth?

Good morning!
 I had an traffic accident between bicycle. And I had surgery and sewed my under eyebrows. Very surprised!:o It made me very shock and nervous. But I'll try to recover my hurt and my mood. Fight!

Influenced by Greece myth?

There are some common points between Japanese myth and Greece myth. In this entry, I am going to think and consider about that matter.

The common point of story

I wrote about Japanese myth's outline story in second entry of this blog. Then, what story Greece myth? Greece myth is story of creation. And, the story is too long to see. I will write about it easily focuses on an important part of compare.

A man god, Orpheus who was bard, had wife. She was woman god called Eurydice and she was very beautiful. They lived near Mt. Olympus. There was beautiful place full of nature. One day, when Eurydice took a work around riverside, she met Aristaeus. Aristaeus was very violent man. So, Eurydice ran away from him and she had been managed to achieve escape. But, she lost her way. She stepped on poisonous snake. Poisonous snake surprised, and snake bite Eurydice with his poisonous fang. Eurydice died. Orpheus couldn't gave up her. So, he decide to go to hades and bring back his wife. He made his way by sing. Gods of hades and deads moved his song. The king of hades allowed that Orpheus would bring back Eurydice to ground. But the King of hades said conditions because Eurydice already ate underground food."Can't see back until reach the ground." Orpheus kept this promise? The answer is NO. Eurydice couldn't back to the ground forever.

In this story, there are some common points with Japanese myth. Of couse, outline is similar,too.

Comparison of common points in detail

1. Izanami and Eurydice
They had their husband. And both two woman died from freak accident. Izanami died in burns when she gave birth. Eurydice died in bite by poisonous snake.

2. They decide to go to hades and...
Izanagi and Orpheus were decide to go to hades to bring back their wife. They cought their wife's hand, but both of them broke a promise. And Their plan were unsuccessful.

3. The reason why to keep promise for homecoming to the ground
Izanami and Eurydice could not return to the ground with out condition because they already ate underground food until comming their husbands. Izanami ate hades food. Eurydice ate pomegranate.


Like a these common points continue after story. But I will stop here because story until there is most easy to compare. This two story aer very similar. One theory said the reason is the outline story come from nomads in continent. I  believe not the theory all. Japan is island nation... But, I sure people in the past made Japanese myth by some influenced. I think so. Greece myth is attractive both on now and past. So, I think that past people who have power made Japanese myth for people's entertainment and control.

Difference between Kojiki and Nihon-shoki

Hello, everyone. As you konw, I am Mana!
Today is Center Examination. In the last year, I took the test.

I set questionnaire about "Which gods do you like?". Thank you for your vote. As a result, "Amaterasu" was god whish is the most loved. And second is Susanoo. I think it is the reason why Amaterasu is No.1 that she is very famous god and familiar to ours. And she is often used as the subjecte of the fantasy book, story and so on. Again, thanks your voice!

Difference between Kojiki and Nihon-shoki

In the last entry, I wrote about who and why wrote Japanese myth, Kojiki and Nihon-shoki. And we noticed this two books has big difference. In today's entry, I am going to think more deeply.

The common point Kojiki and Nihon-shoki

Two books was ordered by Tenmu emperor. If he has not interested in  Shinto, today's we can't know about our traditionals. And two books is story about emperor. Its has same thinking of the world that the world has Heaven and Earth.

Difference between Kojiki and Nihon-shoki

First, they have difference of way of the establishment. Kojiki established in 712. The auther is Ono Yasumaro. The story has three books. And it was written until thirty three generation emperor. It requires four months until it completed. On the other hand, Nihon-shoki established in 720. The auther is Toneri imperial prince and some peoples. The story has thirty books and one genealogy book. It was written until ninety one generation emperor. It requires thirty eight years.

Second, its has very difference the view of world and character's positions. In Kojiki, there is the world originally. Amatesu is the top of gods. The world was made by Amaterasu's order. Heaven is called Takamagahara and Takamagahara controling the ground. Peoples of the ground is Amaterasu's descendants. There is Hades. Izanami will die. The origin is people traditions. In Nihon-shoki, there is the chaos originally and the world made from chaos. Amatesu is just sun god. The world was made automatically by yin and yang power. There is heaven but heaven and ground is separated and equivalent. There is no Hades. Izanami alives. The power of ground can take away with force.

Third, they has difference in purpose. In Kojiki, it wrote for that monarchy that is correct and emperor's history.Original documents are telling stories in imperial court. There is no quote from abroad. In Nihon-shoki, it wrote for that tomake history book like China and country's history.Original documents are traditionals of powerful families. There are many quote from abroad and falsifications. There many fiction characters in Nihon-shoki.

From these points, it seems Kojiki made for domestic and Nihon-shoki made for abroad. And because Nihon-shoki was written with chinese literature, recognize that Nihon-shoki was for abroad.

I don't know difference between Kojiki and Nihon-shoki in detail. In this time,as I searched about it myself, I was able to organize my knowledge. As Japanese myth, Kojiki is more plausible than Nihon-shoki. I thought. Because Nihon-shoki is too far from the original story.

Why and who wrote the myths?

Who wrote Kojiki and Nihon-shoki? And why?
Today, I'll write about this topic separate two paragraph: the case of Kojiki and the case of Nihon-shoki. And I am going to think about its myself.

The case of Kojiki

There is the theory Tenmu emperor ordered it made. Hieda Are(稗田阿礼) was ordered history book recitation by Tenmu emperor and  Ono Yasumaro(太安万侶) wrote it down. So,it have been told the author is Ono Yasumaro. Because there is his grave, it has been proved that he was alive. Kojiki's storyteller, Hieda Are has no evidence which he was real person. But he was may be Fujiwara Fuhito(藤原不比等). Why? In Kojiki, it was wrote "Hieda was twenty seven years old". Another, Fujiwara had the territoty named "Hieda village". And his age was twenty seven when the year which Kojiki was written. From these common point, Hieda was seems to point out Fujiwara. The reason why Fujiwara may be pretend storyteller Hieda were nobody knew. But Kojiki was serched very well about Japan history, traditions of some family, Chainese books and Europian legends. In that time, storyteller supposed lowbrow man. Such a man couldn't see these knowledge. From these reason, it is being considered that Hieda is Fujiwara.
In Japanese history, sometime authors told his name lie for hiding them name. For example, although Tosa story was witten by the man of Ki Turayuki, but he pretended he is a woman. So, I'm thinking that Fujiwara probably pretended Hieda.

The case of Nihon-shoki

There is the theory Toneri imperial prince ordered it made. The author has been told Nakatomi Muraji Oshima(中臣連大島) and Heguri Omi Kobito(平群臣子首) and they ordered by Kawashima prince(川島皇子). This history book was not told detailed it's circumstances. But "why" it written has been reserch over the years. The most credible theory is political reason. Namely, this book was used control of people's thought. In that time, political power was changed. Before it made Nihon-shoki, Soga family has almost political power. But Nakatomi Kamatari(中臣鎌足/ he was founder of Hujiwara) and Nakatomi Kamatari(中大兄皇子/ he was Tenji emperor after) killed Soga Iruka(蘇我入鹿). Soga family was lost their power and Hujiwara got big power. This incident called "Isshi-no-hen"(乙巳の変). Fujiwara Fuhito affected writing Nihon-shoki. Fuhito was Kamatari's second son! Fuhito may be had his father's coup to justfy. In fact, in Nihon-shoki, Kamatari's achievement was written very emphasize. Fujiwara family that robbed power from Soga told their justify to people and they tried to lead the people by this book. Therefore, Nihon-shoki is the story which until born Fujiwara family's emperor.
From these reason, I am thinking this book has more political color than Kojiki. Because of this book, Soga family were thought villain in Japanese story.

Two books has many common point, but the big strange point is Nihon-shoki's last. I thinking Nihon-shoki is more fantasy than Kojiki.

Well, today's topic is...

 Before made the myths.

Everyday I wonder that
"What are thinking of people a long long time ago?"
Before born Japanese Myth... in other words, before born Kojiki or Nihon-shoki, what were faith by people?
In this entry, I will think about ancient people's faith.

Then, I found there are two theory about ancient people's faith.
First, the theory of  that they believed in "animism".
Thinking of animism is that they believe every thing and lives has souls.
This thinking is snuggling naturally. And it has been very important nature.
And after that, people believe polytheism
The other theory is, to my surprise, people believed in "monotheism only".
I don't know this thinking, but it seems to have been in recent years for some reason.
I am going to consider about each theory.

1. ANIMISM and POLYTHEISM

Animism and Polytheism don't have only one god.The thinking is this everything has in god soul. 
Gods are exist innumerably and anywhere.
This thinking is not irreligion, almost today's our thinking .
People faith's evidence could see statues like a Budda and funerary in tumulus , remains, shrines and temples.
Clay figure like human is one of most salient evidence.
Especially "Shinto" is completion of one form of polytheism in Japan.
In Shinto, there are gods over eight hundred.
One of example, there are seven gods in a grain of rice.

2. MONOTHEISM ONLY

Monotheism only is thinking of that god is only one in the world.
One of the most famous religion is Muslim. It has Allah, just only one god in the religion.
There are some reason of ancient Japanase people believed monotheism.
First, until now, development of religion believed aminism→multi-religious→monotheistic→ monotheism only.
But recentury, archaeologist seem to find that their order is reversed.
Namely, the order is monotheism only→monotheistic→multi-religious→aminism.
Into multi-religious is the result of the corruption of faith.
Japanese people shold have era of monotheism only.
Also, people might have been hiding that they believe in only one god because to avoid attack from other countries.

From these results, ancient Japanese people before it was made Japanese myth believed polytheism or monotheism only.
There are no conclusive evidence very in the long past.
But I think it is too surprise to believe that we had the only one god very long time ago.
I believe there are many gods in the world. Of couse, in a grain of rice(but it's a little exaggerated...)
I can't imagin I faith to only one. But this thinking maybe appear this time, I am in now.
In the myth, there are many gods. Is it a evidence that people at that time faith to animism or polytheism?
Did  the myth gave religional influence the people of the time?
Learning about the myth bring another quiestion.

Next topic, I will write about Japanese myth's author.

1. Outline Japanese Myth

First, I'll write about outline of it.
As you know, this story is very long and complexity. And I don't understand all of about it. But I thought how write about them easy to understnd and you will have interested in the myth.
So, now, I'll note the outline as easy word and clearly sentence as possible.

OUTLINE

A long long time ago, the ground was in a chaos.
One day, the world separated two. And some gods were born in the single.
After that, some couple of gods were born. One of them are "Izanagi-no-mikoto"(伊耶那岐命) and "Izanami-no-mikoto"(伊耶那美命).
Izanagi and Izanami had a good relationship, and created many chirdlen gods.
But when Izanami gave birth to "Honokagutsuti", she died.
Izanagi went to hades to call back her, but he failed.
This time, Izanagi and Izanami exechanged to promise of curse. Because of it, now, our world increase 500 people everyday.

After that, when Izanagi washed his face, three gods were born.
One of them, his name is "Susanoo", was orderd to govern the sea by Izanagi.
But Susanoo didn't because he wanted to meet his mother(Izanami).
Izanagi became angry, and banished him from the sea.
Susanoo asked "Amaterasuokami"(his sister) to help, but she hided into "Ama-no-iwato"(天岩戸) because he is very violent.
Some gods managed to give her from cave together and sun light came back.
Susanoo banished from the sky due to this episode.

After he exiled from the sea and sky, he met "Kushinadahime" (櫛名田比売).
He promised with her that when he would kill "Yamata-no-orochi"(八俣大蛇), she would marry with him.
So, Susanoo defeated the monster with eight wine barrels.
The sword which Susanoo used this time is the very famous one, "Kusanagi-no-turugi"(草薙の剣).
This sword handed down in emperor families.

"Ookuninushi"(大国主神) is son of Susanoo. He was very gentle and had 800 over brothers.
One day his brothers went to propose marrige to "Yagamihime"(八上比売)
The middle of road, Ookuninushi found a skinless rabbit.
He saved the rabbit and the rabbit said that "Yagamihime would marry you."
This word came true.

One day "Ninigi-no-mikoto"(迩迩芸命) met very beautiful girl. She was "Konohanasakuyahime"(木花之佐久夜毘売)
Her perents were very glad to hear it and gave Ninigi "Iwanagahime" , too.
But Ninigi returned back Iwanagahime to her house. Her father became angry and said "You returned back my daughter. Your life is assumed to be limited."
This is the reason why emperor will die someday.
 
And after some fine episode, the first emperor ""Zinmu-tenno"(神武天皇) was born and pacified all of Japanese ground.

The scene are exist now. Some example I present you.

Ama-no-iwato
 ↳Takachiho,Usukine,Miyazaki (天岩戸神社　宮城県臼杵郡高千穂町)
Amaterasu hide in there. And 800 over gods held meeating.

Yamata-no-orochi
 ↳Izumo Syrine, Izumo,Shimane (出雲大社　島根県出雲市)
This place is dedicated to Ookuninushi (Susanoo's son).
